For this week’s 20% Time I learned how to create text that looks like candy that has been salivated on from Jon Gos’s blog Gos Dot.I first opened a new document and created a new layer and used the text tool, using the Cooper Black font, to type the word Lollipop. I changed my layer style option to Color Overlay. From there I chose a deep pink color.
After that I had to duplicate that layer twice. On one of the layers I added a drop shadow and then an emboss and bevel. After that I added a Pattern Overlay.

Next, I went to the other layer and selected the text and added a layer mask. I selected the Lasso Tool and selected the Intersect with Selection option and drew a selection around the text. Finally, I changed the layer settings of this layer.

Unfortunately, it didn’t come out how it was supposed to. I don’t know what went wrong but I double checked all my actions and it still came up this way.

Liz, it just looks like you forgot to create a new layer on top of the text layer. That’s the one you want to apply the mask to. If you download the candy file you should be able to dissect it to see what I did.
